Lighthouse Overview

Lighthouse was established to build a collaboration network for Canadians who are concerned about the use and enforcement of illiberal practices to address current social issues. Lighthouse network participants believe in the principles of a free liberal society which seeks to achieve justice while upholding the foundational freedoms and values of our society, including:

  • Individual rights and freedoms and equal protection under the law.

  • Freedom of speech and expression, and a respect for various points of view.

  • Societal institutions which are based on knowledge and expertise, and free from political bias, and discrimination of any kind.

  • The rights of parents and guardians to raise children in a manner which respects their values and beliefs.

Our Societal Foundations of Liberal Social Justice

Liberal Social Justice works according to the above principles to improve our society while upholding the foundational principles of liberalism. This form of justice ensures that all individuals are provided with equal opportunity and protection under the law. While not perfect, Liberal Social Justice seeks to address societal issues while upholding people’s basic fundamental freedoms.  It acknowledges that a free society is not a perfect society, and reforms must be made in a manner which preserves our values and freedoms. Our Canadian predecessors and Western allies fought to uphold this societal justice in the 20th century; against fascism and communism, which both placed collective interests ahead of individual rights. Based on these historical sacrifices and the progressive success of our society, most Canadians were raised to believe in these liberal values, along with a duty to protect them and the freedoms we inherited.

The New Ideology of Critical Social Justice

In recent years, there has been a new ideology sweeping across our institutions implementing a new moral framework which many are struggling to understand. The ideology presents itself with a heightened requirement for political correctness coupled with an obsession on addressing injustices related to matters of group identity (i.e. gender, race, sexual orientation etc). In institutions, programs are formally rolled-out under the umbrella of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Informally, it has been coined Wokeism and its advocates are said to be “Woke”.

This moral shift is a result of teachings from a number of disciplines under the umbrella of Critical Social Justice (CSJ). CSJ is an ideology rooted in the belief that our society is irredeemably discriminatory around issues of group identity.  As such, it advocates for establishing new systems based on “intersectional” collective group-based rights.  This new form of collectivism puts “outcomes” (i.e. equity) on matters of identity ahead of the process-based approach which preserves individual freedoms (i.e. equality of opportunity).  A focus on “outcomes” versus “processes” may seem like a subtle difference, but it is not. The Critical Social Justice ideology is diametrically opposed to the tenets of Liberal Social Justice.  Its rise through our institutions has sweeping implications for our societal freedoms which many are just beginning to appreciate, including:

  • Individual rights, particularly around the issue of economic freedoms, are actively being replaced by collective group-based rights.  Rights are calibrated based on an assessment of an individual’s “oppression” from immutable characteristics.  Canadians are no longer all equal under the law.

  •  Reasonable dissenting views to the ideology are frequently met with character defamation (i.e. sexist, racist etc.), and cancelling individuals’ careers.  Collective group-based ideologies must enforce a totalitarian system of “group think”, as diversity of viewpoints cannot be tolerated.

  • Societal institutions, previously based on knowledge and expertise are actively being weaponized to undermine our freedoms, and to serve as ideological breeding grounds to propagate CSJ ideologies.

  • Parents with traditional liberal and conservative values are seeing their children’s K-12 educational institutions transformed into ideological indoctrination centres for CSJ ideologies, including gender ideology which is fundamentally destabilizing to children’s core sense of self and are frequently at odds with parental values.

The Lighthouse Network Response

This Lighthouse network was developed by a group of proud Canadians who desire to address the threat to a liberal and free society that CSJ ideologies pose.  Network participants care deeply about issues of social justice, and desire to deal with these issues in a manner which preserves our values, freedoms and institutions.  These are the very foundations of our liberal society.

The network will connect like-minded Canadians to collaborate on identifying pertinent issues and developing grass-roots movements which confront CSJ ideologies in our society.  The Lighthouse website will provide a portal to deliver educational resources, along with a platform to shine the light on the illiberal practices and injustices resulting from the rise of CSJ ideologies.

Please join our network if you are concerned about the rise of CSJ in our society, and are willing to contribute to efforts to confront it.  Our network participants come from a variety of political affiliations, cultural backgrounds and occupational skill sets.  Each participant can choose how they can best contribute to efforts; both publicly and/or privately.  We share one core goal; a desire to preserve our liberal society based on a system which addresses social issues using a Liberal Social Justice framework.

Vision, Mission, Values

Our Vision: A free, liberal and democratic Canadian society rooted in individual rights, free speech, equal access to opportunity and the common humanity of all citizens.

Our Mission: We shine the light on the illiberal practices and injustices being carried out in the name of “Critical Social Justice” and coordinate action to protect liberalism and freedoms in Canada.

Our Values: We are a non-partisan community committed to democracy, individual rights, human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of expression, viewpoint diversity, racial tolerance, acceptance, equality, and objective reasoning.

We oppose the authoritarianism of Critical Social Justice ideology and how it is used in Canadian schools to indoctrinate, censor, shame and divide our children.

We are against all forms of bigotry and intolerance including discrimination based on race, sex, sexual orientation, religion or ancestry.

Current Focus Areas:

  • Education: We expose the ways that Critical Social Justice (aka “woke”) practices undermine liberal values and human dignity in Canadian schools, workplaces and institutions. We develop resources and partnerships to enhance awareness of the problem and build support for our vision of a fairer, freer system.

  • Community Building: We provide a platform for Canadians to connect, share experiences, and discuss the adverse, real-world impacts of Critical Social Justice practice.

  • Action: We support grassroots community action against illiberal indoctrination in our schools and advocate for a K-12 curriculum rooted in enlightenment principles, reason and humanism.
